What would the amounts for that recipe be for a 70lb dog?
How do I know how much food to give my 8.8 pound malshi? He eats 1/4 cup kindle 2x a day, well heās supposed to. Heās very picky.
The pet ānutritionā debacle is a disgrace. Pet food companies prioritize profits for themselves while cutting corners using cheap and often adulterated ingredients (think of the melamine issue of several years ago which caused kidney failure and deaths in so many pets). A good eg. is the shift to using cheap legumes as protein sources. As an animal NUTRITIONIST, I know that while peas are often high in protein, they also contain āantinutritional factorsā which, if in high enough concentrations, can bind up other nutrients like vitamins, making them unavailable to the animal. This is a main problem behind the claims of heart disease in dogs which are on āgrain freeā – these foods have replaced grains with legumes and the nutritional quality is lower. But the legumes are cheaper than meat so they are used in the pet food and the company is able to claim the food has the same amount of protein. Sure, it may, but quality has been compromised.
When I went to vet school I talked from my experience and understanding about food ingredients. I said things like ācats should not eat carbohydrates because their livers are not able to handle thatā. I asked the difficult questions about food ingredients at presentations given to us by pet food companies. Like, āwhat is āanimal digestā in your pet food?ā (What IS it, not what does it do). The woman presenter claimed āoh itās just like a bouillion cube, to make your food taste good!ā The truth is, itās a cooked product made from many undefined species of animal or bird, and may contain their gut contents, waste products from slaughter, etc. It is disgusting and one of the many ways that companies use every bit of slaughtered animals by cooking or heating or diluting potentially dangerous waste products in order to call them something inocuous and include it in the food without raising red flags to consumers. āAnimal digestā has some nitrogenous component therefore will test positive for protein, and thus will contribute to the protein percentage of the food. Yet it has no real nutritional value.
In vet school I got blank stares and then criticism for asking these questions and making suggestions which were based in my previous education. In particular I would say that while some pet food co may do good quality research on their own foods, it is a conflict of interest to do the research and then turn around and make money from the very foods that the co is saying āare good because our research has shown it isā. Vet students are taught to just do and say what the pet food companies want them to. No one is encouraged to think critically or ask questions, and certainly not to tailor service and treatment TO individual pets/animals or consider the contribution of the owner or even the right of the owner to ask questions. In my last year of vet school, after I had completed all the courses and rotations AND passed the veterinary licensing exam, bullying and unethical behaviour by instructors and residents forced me out. I was prevented from graduating and left with huge debt and no way to pay it. No one cared about what I had accomplished or how much I had done in the program (including receiving commendations from pet owners), they only wanted me OUT because I made them uncomfortable by talking about actual evidence, wanting answers to my questions and by treating the pet owners with respect and taking time to answer their questions. This is why the vet industry is the way it is today: itās been sold out to big business and profit, by the vets who cannot handle the truth and have no desire to look for it or acknowledge that their way of doing something may not be valid or may not suit all patients. Itās all about the profit: individually owned clinics are being sold to āprivate entityā organizations and thatās the beginning of the end as prices are increased and services are decreased, just like in human health care. The message is: tow the line, obey the status quo, do not make waves if you want any kind of job or reputation. Ask valid questions and these āethical professionalsā will ruin you.
Peas aren’t good now right
Is dog chow better than cook rice with carrot and chicken
I’m on numbers 6 and 7 of Australians Shepherd in my life. The previous 5 I feed high-quality kibble. They were mostly healthy but always had tummy problems, smelled, and the last became diabetic. They all died before their 12th birthday. Most sooner. My dad had an Aussie when he was a child, and it lived to be 19 years old. They feed it the same as they ate, and when they processed animals ( on the farm ), they fed him the trim and things that were unwanted, same with the game animals. What I’m saying is he never ate commercial dog food.
After the death of my last beloved pup before the current two, I looked into why modern dogs are having so many different health problems. I mean that I spent hours, weeks, and months reading everything that I could.
My, Unscientific conclusion? Commercial dog food is garbage.
I made the decision to feed a raw and home-cooked diet with as little commercial dog food as possible.
I do feed some kibble, but it is for travel and emergency use and as treats instead of treats ( I still give treats, but mostly freeze-dried one ingredient and other high-quality treats )
The raw is a ground beef mixture of 80% muscle meat, with the other 20% consisting of liver, spleen, heart, green tripe, kidney , and ground bone.
I also feed raw meaty bones, chicken paws, pork, venison, bison, chicken, turkey, and lamb. Along with oily fish like sardines, salmon, and mackerel.
The home-cooked recipe is sweet potato, carrots, beets, celery, spinach, kale, parsley, quinoa, ground flaxseed, chia seeds, ground beef and another protein like chicken or pork, turkey, lamb, bison, venison. Chicken or beef liver, chicken hearts, and gizzard. Some oatmeal and brown rice. Turmeric, ginger, kelp, garlic ( yes, garlic in small quantities are safe, and have health benefits for them the same as us )cinnamon, black pepper, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil. And add-ons that I have on hand sometimes mushrooms, parsnips, turnips, broccoli, green beans, peas.
I also give them raw chicken and duck eggs a few times a week. Also, sometimes, a Sunday morning treat with their breakfast, I’ll scramble eggs with spinach and mushrooms and give them with their breakfast.
My girl will be 4 here in less than a month as I write this and the boy I’d a year and a half. Both are super healthy ( by blood test and their veterinarian checkups) with beautiful shiny coats, healthy skin, clean ears, no bad smells ( breathe, coat/skin), and very active. I can see how much better they look, act, and smell over my previous pups! I just wished that I did this with them!
The cost? Well, I haven’t figured it up since the economy has gone nuts, but when I first started this, I did, and it was about $50.00 USD more than feeding high-quality kibble. As I get some stuff at Farmers Markets, and for the stuff like liver, kidney and the like, deep discounts. Also, get stuff from hunters.
Even the veggies that I try to use are organic. I look for discounts, stock up and pre cut, and freeze.
I bought a chest freezer for this purpose.
I make pumpkin puree, and it’s free because I gathered all the Halloween /Thanksgiving pumpkins up and cooked them. All done in my instant pot.
Also, make bone broth. I save my bones cooked and/or raw, beef, chicken, pork, venison, apple cider vinegar and with some chicken paws, water, carrots, celery, turmeric, ginger and parsley whip up a batch in the Instant pot, and put it in ice cube trays and freeze until need.
I cook the homemade food once a month, bag in, and freeze it. Thaw and use as needed. I also give them Goats Milk and kefir.
It sounds like a lot of time, but it’s not. I work 50 to 70 hours a week, and I have time to do this. I believe that I’m getting a return on my time and effort. That is two beautiful, healthy pups that I hope will have a very long, healthy life!
I am a little lost with all you said then you add seed oil to your pets food
In Australia most veterinary clinics are being bought by multinationals, so it is all about the money. There is one vet in my suburb who owns her own clinic, she is a wonderful animal lover.
Dogs are carnivores. They should eat meat. š
thank you so much for the video…i feed my dog āāhomemade food all the time and i don’t know what to do when everyone tells me the opposite, it’s really tiring. she is 5 now and i hope she will have a long and happy life.
Thank you!! For helping us sort through all these issues and provide better care for our furry family. We love our dogs and cat as much as our human family they are with us constantly and depend on us, I feel better knowing how to make better choices!!

Also switching food suddenly can cause issues right? If we want to give the recipe on this video would it mess up their digestive system? Thanks!
I use Ripleeās ranch ..
My baby is 10 and eats raw food from nw naturals, raw beef and organs, sardines, and I also make her a scramble of eggs, beef, carrots, sweet potato and broccoli. I have been doing this for about 4 years. When we got off kibble her arthritic symptoms went away, she lost 15 pounds, skin tags went away, coat sheds less and got shiner, nose was wetter and poops were smaller and only once a day. I would never go back and I tell everyone that’s why she looks so good. Because she really does look half her age š
šā¤šThank-you Love your videos
I feel our Golden pyramese the dry kibble our vet recommended and I give her fresh veggies and fruits that are safe for dogs. I also give her organ food and lean chicken and beef, and turkey, plus sweet potatoes and pure pumpkin.
Are you familiar with Professor Andrew Knight’s work which has highlighted the efficacy of plant-based diets for overall improvement in health outcomes of cats and dogs? He has a presentation called ‘Should Cats and Dogs go Vegan?’ that is highly recommended. We not only need to start moving away from conventional (*WW2* era…) kibble, but there needs to be a new precedent set for what domesticated animals’ diets look like if we hope to see a future with more quality time spent with pets and positive maintenance at the vets, vs. the current sad state that most pet owners are starting to wake up to.
Its breath takingly painful to think of all the dogs my familys had and also me feeding my dog, dry dog food as well most her life so far. Ugh. We didnt even know..
What is the Ultimate Canine powder?
I wish there were more vets out there like you. I feel so unsupported. Thank you for doing what you do!
Review ISEGRIM dog food please
There are estimated 80 million dogs in the U.S and people spend up to $30 billion per year on pets (Dog) supplies. Iām sure most of those 80 million dogs get fed processed brown kibble , also known as āDog Foodā. I think this dog kibble should be illegal, and should never be in the mouth of any dog. The shiny packaging, and creative labeling may fool consumers, but once you look at some of the side effects and ingredients companies put in this āDog Foodā you may change your mind about feeding this to your dog that you love.
First off, in 2007 a toxic ingredient came to dog food killing thousands of dogs and pets nationwide. Itās called Melamine. It’s used as a fertilizer, but this was found in dog food. This is not cool, when you feel safe feeding your dog āDog Food ” they are killed by the careless ingredient. According to Truth About Pet Food āRoyal Caninā and āDiamond Pet Foodsā have caused 300,000 concerning phone calls to the FDA about this poison and the damage it has done to their pet. They have put this poison inside of Kibble, treats, and even in canned dog food!
Also, Dr.Barbara Royal is an illustrator and a vet in the food industry she states ā Corn, Wheat, and Soy should not be fed to any dogā. Funny how, most dog foods you see have those 3 ingredients. Dogs shouldnāt consume these because they can cause diabetes, overweight, arthritis, chronic skin, infections, and even allergies! All the dog food companies only care about profit, so they choose the cheapest option to put in the food. So Corn, Wheat, and Soy are so cheap because we have so much of it, so companies choose quantity over quality. Specific companies like āKibbles ān Bitsā, āBenefulā, āHillāsā and more popular brands include these ingredients.
Companies may have toxins and biologically inappropriate, unnecessary ingredients, but some include By-Prod. By-Prod is the edible parts that’s leftover after an animal has been slaughtered, or died. This sounds disgusting, and unsanitary. By-Prod could have diseases, or even illnesses and these companies process those foods and call them āDog Foodā. A company called āPurinaā uses this, and so do some others.
After all, what is the solution to this? Well, instead of unnecessary kibble, you could feed your dog Raw food. I know it may sound disgusting but itās way healthier, and biologically correct to feed them raw food, like raw bunny and other raw prey. According to Kiddle, āWolves and dogs share 90% of the same DNAā. Every dog may have a different appearance, some may have big fluffy fur, some might have no hair at all! But, no matter how different each dog looks they still are related to wolves and should be on the same diet. Doesnāt it just sound wrong to feed your āWolf” kibble? I think it’s way more appropriate to feed your dog raw food, instead of dried intoxicated kibble. The dog doesnāt have a specific diet, so we are capable of abusing them with the food they eat! My dog used to eat dog kibble, back then she wasnāt very happy, and would have a lot of allergies and would get sick often. Though after we fed her raw food sheās been whining for her food and once you prepare and place the food on the floor for her sheāll gobble it up like itās the last meal of her life! And she has been very healthy and barely has any allergies now.
To add up, try to avoid the colorful bags , and consider getting raw food. You canāt say your dog wonāt like it till you try it! I think dog food should be more supervised by vets and the public should start introducing more raw food to stores and the public. If you love your pet youād make the right decision. Dog Kibble should disappear and be truthful when it comes to advertising
Hii I love writing, and I happen to stumble across the topic of dog food and or dog kibble, I have a dog of my own and I highly recommend raw food^^ it has really changed my dog, she used to starve and she had a lot of allergies but ever since we fed her raw food her health as been great. I WROTE THIS, this is not a copyright please donāt steal š I just want to share my opinion and if you want to hate on me then keep it to yourself please
Love your video and got some question
I really hate kibble due to some cat got illness or disease, but why some cat still stay healthy on dry food, kindly advise. Thank you
Seriously, I hope you donāt routinely let your dog sit on your kitchen counter. Iām pa pushover, but even I have my limits. š¤£š¤£š¤£
dont these companies have any regrets to contaminate poor dog foods with harshful chemicals like they dont even know what they are eating in a slightest bit and dogs cant even express their pain so heartless behind this pet food industry business im now scared for my dog to what dog food should i feed him
I just got back from the vet who told me I should not feed raw and itās best NOT to change up my dogs food. It goes against my gut feeling though because adding new things (including raw) or changing kibble flavor keeps my 17 yo dog more interested in eating. I donāt understand why vets donāt agree.
Untill people get together and bring these companies a Huge law suit this atrocious criminal activities will continue
We have two 10 week old westies. What would you recommend?
What a wonderful outcome. Thank you for giving so much detail. I use to kibble as extra food not the main food. Im going to stop feeding my darling dog processed foods. If processed for is bad for humans, it’s got to be bad for every other species. Thank you
Where can I order your Ultimate Canine?
Is the brand "Freshpets" a good wet dog food??? Any advice or what is a good dry kibble that u recommend?
My oldest dog is 20 this yr. I have 3 rescue Pomeranians in my family. Senior and special needs. As any vet can tell you, they are extremely sensitive little dogs. Prone to allergies and skin issues such as alopecia. My oldest was allergy tested multiple times. He is allergic to preservatives in most dog foods as well as poultry and pork. Along with environmental allergies. The other two are also allergic to poultry. Since I adopted them, Iāve always kept them on fresh foods. Steamed veggies, rice, fish, bison, deer, and vary limited ingredient dog foods. I read ingredients on everything. It started because of allergies, and then I realized how many other ingredients are harmful and unnecessary. Farmina, Open Farm, and Stella & Chewys have worked great for us. However, I do mix it up with honest kitchen or grandma Lucyās too. Even adding cricket protein like Jiminys. No dog food is a complete diet. Itās very important to give variety as in the wild, they would also be eating a varied diet
Thank you for helping me know what my dog can eat!ā¤
Kibble is poison
Also want to add, that within a few days of my dogs being on your canine advance supplement, there š© looked soooo much better. I’m on my 3rd order of it and have never seen them so healthy. Thank you sooooo much for all you do and the amazing information you give us. I trust u, and I don’t trust most with my dogs. So, thanks for being in this practice for all the right reasons.
Anyone have a raw dog food recipe? I have a 3 years old King Charles Cavalier and I want to feed her rightā¦.
I am confused because most vets say peas and sweet potato is linked to DCM heart disease? Also most of them say only science diet, Purina, Royal canin are good. Why are they saying that? Is it a money grab or is it actually better?
is fish a good diet
Can u advise a best vitamins and oil for maltipoo 2mnths old puppy
Do you have any thoughts on Carna4 dog food?
DON’T give your pets seed oils! You should eat them either. They are highly processed and processed with toxic solvents like Hexane. Seed oils are loaded with Omega-6s & therefore pro-inflammatory.
Cat gets diarrhea every time with each different food or flavor .š¢š¢š¢š¢š¢
Thankyou Do you have an opinion on kangaroo meat?
Thank you for this video! My dog had colitis twice now, once due to stress (being in a kennel) and once because we fed him a treat from a pet shop that was clearly not up to standard. Would it be possible that raw food (occasionally) could trigger colitis or is it safe to give it a try?
I always make the food for my dogs
Seed Oils are horrible for people, I can’t imagine them being good for Dogs either.
I recently read that peas are linked to DCM so I stopped feeding it to my dogs. Instead I feed them cooked spinach, broccoli, cauliflower and carrots, and quinoa on occasion.
We can’t afford the Farmers Dog food, it’s too expensive.
I have 7 weeks old GSP ā¦ can I already take her off the kibble and prepare proper food for her?
Well wat the fuck dobi feed a fog then bro? Wats best thing for my pet? I plan in gettin a dog soon maybe..i need to know kome on type back to me let me know thanks š
